Back from quick vacations by the sea

Hey friends, just a quick post to inform you that I am back from a few relaxing days by the sea! I had some time to clear my head, I have finished all the lyrics for the Dol Ammad “Hyperspeed” album and I will be posting the full tracklist and lyrics the next days. Ok I am going to unpack and we’ll catch up later...

“Spacelodica” – free mp3 and promo video

Here is the second gift for our friends who subscribe to the Lightbridge Newsletter. The song “Spacelodica” is a special track I recorded to honor my endorsement deal with Hohner musical instruments. In “Spacelodica” all the sounds except for bass and drums, come from a different Hohner melodica. I experimented using the melodica as a lead and bass instrument and also through special sound effects. I even used a vocoder to filter the vocals through the melodica sound. The song is a different take on the Dol Theeta’s song “Something Called Tomorrow” from the Dol Theeta album “The Universe...

Hyperspeed update: “Caravan Of Mars” – Lyrics

The song “Caravan Of Mars” is turning out to be one of my favorite from the upcoming new album! The story is about Phobos – the largest of Mars’ moons. Phobos has an unusual close orbit close its father planet Mars. This means that Phobos is destined to be torn to pieces by Mars’ gravity when it will inevitably meet with the Martian atmosphere. We witness here a tribe of Phobos miners seeing an psychic-apparition that warns them of their imminent death… Caravan Of Mars Caravan of Mars Crawling in the sand Mines of Phobos Darkest mythos Turns the...

Hyperspeed update: “Stargate Pyramid” – Lyrics

Here are the lyrics for one of the songs in the next Dol Ammad album “Hyperspeed”. The song is called “Stargate Pyramid” and is about a strange pyramid-shaped object that appeared onto an unsuspected alien race. Their leader is deceiving them to touch and feel and enter into the object and they celebrate the event as if a God has come to them. The truth however is that the object is a trap, a portal to another world where the aliens are slaughtered and exploited… Stargate Pyramid Like a God it appears Nectar flows Calls them in Stargate Pyramid...

Sea Of Tranquility – “Ocean Dynamics” Review

As it becomes increasingly difficult to create music that is genuinely innovative and ground breaking, so those seeking to build something new begin to combine elements of disparate genres to come up with something similar yet different. Enter Greek composer Thanasis Lightbridge who has decided that the best way with which to reach his musical goal is to bring together elements of symphonic metal, add a choir and classical arrangements, before topping the whole thing off with electronica style keyboards and dance beats. Those varying influences may not sound like the most obvious of bed fellows and in truth...

Sea Of Tranquility – “The Universe Expands” Review

Having release two albums under the guise of Dol Ammad (2004’s Star Tales and Ocean Dynamics two years later), Greek Electronica-Art-Metal composer Thanasis Lightbridge turned his attention to another project that furthered the same musical ethos of blending classical voices with surging metal riffs and electronic themes. Where Theeta differs from Ammad is that instead of the vocals in the band being a choir of fourteen, this time the sole voice of soprano singer Kortessa leads the way. The difference may in the grand scheme of things be quite subtle, but the end results are quite starkly different, with...

Sea Of Tranquility – “Winds Of The Sun” Review

Thanasis Lightbridge is a Greek composer whose vision is to create what he calls Electronica-Art-Metal. To do this he has devised not one but two separate, but intertwined projects Dol Ammad and Dol Theeta. The former of those two is what is featured on this EP Winds Of The Sun, which is a perfect if short introduction to the mixture of symphonic metal, progressive themes, electronica and dance beats, all tied together by a fourteen part choir! So far Lightbridge’s Dol Ammad have released an album of early demos and two full albums, Star Tales from 2004 and Ocean...

It has begun…New Dol Ammad album “Hyperspeed” in the making!

My dear friends, I am so glad to reveal that it’s been some months now that I have been working full time on new material for the 3rd full Dol Ammad album which will be entitled “Hyperspeed”. I have gathered tons of ideas and sounds and the new album is starting to taking shape and form. Our new voyage will be through space worlds (what else? :P) and it will be a powerful one. The new songs are developing full of energy and cosmic force. This time however we will make this album together! I will document and keep...

Metal Perspective – “Winds Of The Sun” review

This 5 tracks EP comes in digital format only and it mainly showcases another round of collaboration between DC Cooper of Royal Hunt fame and Thanasis Lightbridge. And I say mainly, because from the 4 remaining tracks only “Birth Of A Dream” (a Jarre and Vangelis heavily influenced melody) is brand new, as “Black Winter Day” is a very reviving cover on that Amporhis’ classic cut, “Theeta Dominion” is a special take on a past Dol Ammad tune, as well as “Aquatic Majesty”, a choir only remix; both songs revisited from the “Ocean Dynamics” album and both laboured at...

Max Mathews – RIP

One of the pioneers in computer music, Max Mathews died last week in the age of 84. Max is considered the father of digital synthesis and a great explorer in computer innovations. He developed “MUSIC” the first computer program for sound synthesis, he arranged the first synthesized voice with “DAISY BELL” making computers talk for the first time and also experimented with gestural controllers way before Wiis and Kinects were mainstream devices. Happy Angry-Birds Easter

The social-economic state that we experience here in Greece the last months led my girlfriend and I to dye our easter eggs as “Angry Birds”. I for one feel like an “angry bird” all the time in my everyday life in Greece having to fight for even the simplest thing, witnessing amazing injustice and inequalities, worrying what the future will bring… Let’s hope that we all get angry, wake up from the slumber that they enforce us and break the constructions of economic slavery that is upon us. Re-discovering Vinyl

I recently re-discovered my love for vinyl records! I bought a shinny new limited edition ceramic white turntable and after a 3000 CD collection I am starting to buy vinyl again. My last time was somewhere in the early 90’s I think. Boy! what an amazing experience vinyl records are… Huge artwork, full sound spectrum, the fact that you have to turn the sides (so pay attention to the music, it’s not just for background use :P) and also the amazing visual feedback that you have with the spinning record in front of you. It’s like you can “see”...

Avantgarde Metal – “The Universe Expands” Review

Some months ago the newborn realms of DOL THEETA spelled its first bewitching chants: The marvellous debut MCD “Goddess” (read review here) granted a first gaze into the new musical universe of DOL AMMAD mastermind Thanasis Lightbridge. While DOL AMMAD is explosions and explorement, lightspeed and sunstorms, DOL THEETA unfolds the mysterious, phantasmagoric dreamsides of the “Electronic Art Metal” collective. “Goddess” already promised a lot, but still left one question open: Which of all those multi-coloured facets of the MCD unveil the path of the first full-length album? Is it the catchiness of the titlesong refrain or the morphic...

Thanasis is a masterful composer who manages in perfection to combine the mightiness of metal with the crystalline soundscapes of electronic music. Avantgarde Metal – “Ocean Dynamics” Review

When I looked at the album cover I first felt like a beaten dog, which then was slowly and carefully nosing the CD until realising it was a friend and not a foe. “Ocean Dynamics” is a continuous concept starting in outer space, represented by the powerful first four tracks of “Thalassa Dominion I-IV”. The journey moves on into the solar system and “Solarwinds” is tied on with fast and fantastic drums which really sound like solar winds. This is musically so amazingly well done, that you could distinguish between a storm and a wind. The wind here even...

The Metal Minute – “The Universe Expands” CD Review

No, Thanasis Lightbridge doesn’t pocket a lightsaber but there might be a communicator lapel stashed beneath his sleek, futuristic jacket which is both Euro casual stylish as well a possible look at down-the-road military fashion. In any case, Thanasis Lightbridge has been stoically looking to propel a brave collision between heavy metal, neoclassical reinvention and electronica off the blue-watered Aegean coastline and upwards into a welcoming stratosphere. Paradise inspires paradise in Thanasis Lightbridge’s aesthetics where no rules constrict his art. You might be familiar with his introductory entity Dol Ammad, a briskly-moving ensemble incorporating all of the above elements...
